Villeroy & Boch - A Brief History

Villeroy & Boch china Villeroy & Boch has enjoyed over 250 years of continued success and development.

1748 saw the foundation of a small potter’s workshop in Audun le Tiche - France.

In 1767 the pottery moved to Habsbourgian, Luxembourg and the ‘Manufacture Imperiale et Royale’ was established producing reasonably priced high quality china.

Jean Francois Boch, the grandson of the founder started manufacturing china in Mettlach - Germany in 1809 in ‘Alte Abtei’, a former Benedictine monastery,
where the head office of the company is still housed today. In 1836 the faience company of Nicolas Villeroy merged with Boch’s company and Villeroy & Boch
was created.

Since then the Villeroy & Boch brand has grown to include crystal glass, cutlery, tiles and bathroom suites to become one of the leading international brand names.
