The Case for Bathroom Design

The Case For Design
Careful designing will improve a piece of work - be it a pair of shoes or a building. We, at Stephen Jenkins, are passionate about design - in particular the geometric plan of the room and the quality of the hardware. Working with us would commence with a site survey to learn all about the space concerned and to receive your design objectives - both for function and aesthetics.

Resolving the resulting design problems takes place in our drawing office - then we call you in to discuss and develop the scheme.

Bathroom Design
Designing a modern bathroom in the UK has become much more technical and more demanding as an up-to-date bathroom is largely Continental and light years ahead of that which we are replacing. However, we have extensive experience in this area and will guide you round the new hardware to help you take advantage of design improvements that reduce cleaning, save water, save space, avoid pipe boxings and prevent leaking shower trays.

Designing With Tiles
Modern tiles are wonderful and Villeroy & Boch have a massive range at the leading edge of design and quality. We understand them well and always provide our clients with the expert help to guide them to the right selection to suit their preferences.

Remember, it is the tiles and general geometry you will note first on entering your room - not the WC. Tiles and Tiler are the biggest cost of a modern bathroom - not the plumber and not the suite.

Designing - on a Computer or a Drawing Board?
Stephen Jenkins is an engineering draughtsman so designing rooms to 1 in 20 scale on A 3 paper with a drawing board comes naturally to him. Drawings thus produced are mathematically accurate so all the spaces between objects can be accurately assessed and gradually moved in position ‘til they are “right”.

A computer is a less subtle instrument for this purpose and will often only produce a pictorial view from above. Unlike a proper plan, these pictorial views are not mathematically accurate so the designer cannot make proper judgments about the spaces in the room - especially as most computer screens are only half of an A3.

Also a computer can only work with items it has in its memory - which stifles creativity. On a drawing board the designer can draw what ever his imagination wants to - without limitation. We are always coming up with new ways of doing things and using special pieces of hardware that a computer may know nothing of.

The drawings and elevations we produce during the design process then allows us to:-
a. Draw out every wall and plan the tile patterns to prevent silly cuts occurring
b. Dimension the drawing so the tradesmen are accurately instructed
c. Give the customer a copy the customer so he/she knows what is going to happen..
An A3 size drawing is best for all these functions.

At this company we find that drawing makes good design easy. Stephen Jenkins feels that the drawing board acts as an extension to his brain and makes the process efficient and very enjoyable. This level of interaction is not possible with a computer - for all its other wonderful uses.

Visit us to discuss your project or if you wish you can send in dimensions of your bathroom for us to do a design. But we could need to talk to you over the phone to give our guidance.
